5 tips on how to store whiskey bottles correctly

To understand how to store bottles of whiskey, you should know some special care to take with this drink, in order to maintain its properties and prevent its deterioration. Whiskey is a strong, spirited alcoholic drink, in which it is up to a good connoisseur to define its quality, using the characteristics inherent to its composition.

Here we will present some tips that will help you keep your bottle of whiskey stored correctly:

  • Keep the whiskey bottle tightly closed

Whiskey bottles require some special care and one of the most important is to keep the whiskey bottle well sealed after opening.

If you are unable to reuse the original stopper, you can opt for another stopper, preferably cork or a glass bottle, with a well-prepared lid, without the risk of oxygen entering and interfering with the quality of your drink.

  • Protect the bottle from direct contact with light

There are other storage features for whiskey bottles that are very important, such as protecting the alcoholic beverage from direct contact with light.

Given this, it is necessary to store whiskey bottles in a darker environment, without the presence of sunlight, so that you can enjoy your whiskey with its true flavor. Furthermore, if the alcoholic beverage is directly exposed to very intense light, it may undergo changes in color and change its structure, due to the activation of chemical reactions that affect the drink.

  • Keep the bottle in a place with the appropriate temperature

Sudden changes in temperature greatly affect the quality of this alcoholic beverage. When the whiskey bottle becomes hot, it can damage the area of the bottle that ensures it is sealed and, consequently, facilitate the entry of oxygen, which directly affects the quality of the drink.

To identify how to store whiskey bottles, it is important to take the temperature into account, and it is recommended to store your whiskey bottles in a place with a mild temperature, between 15º and 20º.

  • Store the bottle in an upright position

The position of the whiskey bottles has some influence on the quality of the alcoholic beverage. These must be stored in a vertical position, since if they are in a horizontal position, the drink will be constantly in contact with the cork, which will cause the alcoholic drink to deteriorate, affecting the flavor and encouraging the entry of oxygen into the bottle.

  • Turn the bottle occasionally

The whiskey bottle, when left in a vertical position for a long time, in which the drink does not come into contact with the cork, makes it too dry, causing it to fall apart, causing a loss of quality of the drink. Given this, you must keep the cork moist, turning the bottle for a few seconds, at least once a month, so that it does not fall apart or interfere with the quality of the whiskey.
